NeoStem, Inc. Appoints Leading Chinese Medical Official to Its Advisory Board

Ms. Cai Jianqian, a graduate of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, has held the positions of Chief of the Administration of Chinese Medicine of Shandong Province, standing Council Member of the China Association of Chinese Medicine, Chairman of the Medicated Diet Association, Member of the lecturer team on Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion, and Corporate Representative of the Shandong Provincial Association of Chinese Medicine.

NeoStem, Inc. Appoints International Expert in Endocrinology and Pharmacology as Vice President of Drug Development and Regulatory Affairs

NBSNeoStem, Inc. (Amex: NBS), which is pioneering the pre-disease collection, processing and long-term storage of adult stem cells for future medical need, announced today it has appointed Alan G. Harris, M.D., Ph.D., FACP, FRCP, as the Company’s Vice President of Drug Development and Regulatory Affairs.

Among his responsibilities in this position will be overseeing NeoStem’s therapeutic development activities and interfacing with the Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board to assist in the execution of the Company’s scientific vision. This will include overseeing the Company’s regulatory activities, working to advance NeoStem’s intellectual property portfolio and licensed technologies, assisting in the development of a chronic wound care program and developing a regulatory pathway for commercializing stem cell therapy, including assisting in developing very small embryonic like (VSEL) stem cell therapy in multiple clinical indications. Upon the completion of the Company’s proposed acquisition of a 51% interest in Suzhou Erye Pharmaceuticals Company, Ltd., which the Company anticipates closing no later than the fourth quarter of 2009, Dr. Harris is expected to assist in bringing new drugs to China to enhance Erye’s pipeline in an effort to increase revenues and provide a higher margin business through their already established 30 province distribution.

NeoStem Raises Additional Funds from Principals of Suzhou Erye Pharmaceuticals Company Ltd. and U.S. Institutional and Private Investors

-This Brings the Total Recent Financings to Over $15 Million; Funds Will Support Expansion Activities in the United States and China as well as Further Development of NeoStem’s VSEL and other Licensed Technologies-

NBSNeoStem, Inc. (NYSE Amex: NBS) announced today that it has raised additional gross funds of over $4 million from institutional and private investors. These funds, together with the $11 million private placement from three Asia-based investors announced April 13, 2009, bring the total investment obtained by NeoStem in the past two and half months to over $15 million. In addition, affiliates of Suzhou Erye Pharmaceuticals Company, Ltd. have increased their overall investment in the Company to over $1,000,000. As part of its China expansion activities, NeoStem is anticipating, subject to approval of its shareholders, on closing before year end on the acquisition of a 51% interest in Suzhou Erye through a merger with its current 51% owner.

The funds will be used to support NeoStem’s continuing initiatives in VSEL (very small embryonic-like) stem cell technology licensed from the University of Louisville and to advance NeoStem’s expansion activities in China, as well as other general corporate purposes. A portion of the funds also will be used to expand U.S.-based operations and add seasoned management to the NeoStem team with experience in clinical drug development in pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry and administration of overseas based clinical trials.
